‘Reputation’ Review

‘Reputation’ Review

We’ve already established that I’m a crazy Taylor Swift fan, so it was clear to everyone that my excitement for her release of Reputation just could not be contained.

So, on Friday 10th November I woke up at a very early 4 o’clock in the morning, waiting until the album was finally dropped at half past 4 in the morning in the UK… just for me to find out that I was unable to buy or download it on my phone. So, right then and there I looked towards Amazon, and bought the album, for it to arrive later that night instead, and that was a long enough wait for me!

About the album itself though, I LOVE IT! I was a little nervous that I wouldn’t be a fan of this latest album, as I wasn’t a massive lover of, Ready For It… , Gorgeous, or Look What You Made Me Do as they all made good pre-album release singles, but only because they were mainly aimed towards the radio, and making sales from the public that wouldn’t buy the entire album, and for that reason, I found that they were a little too repetitive. But, I was over the moon to find out that the entire album wasn’t like this.

Even though I’m not the number 1 fan of ‘Ready For It…’ I still know every single word, and have to sing it whenever it’s played, and it’s perfect as the first song on the album, setting up the tone.

Although, there’s one song that I’m actually quite disappointed in, as it’s quite boring and I almost find it cringey to listen to, which is the second song on the album, being ‘End Game’, which is the song featuring Future and Ed Sheeran. It’s just become one of those songs I’ve skipped every time.

I love the rest of the album though, and my favourite songs are;

  • Don’t Blame Me
  • I Did Something Bad
  • Delicate
  • Dancing With Our Hands Tied
  • This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things
  • New Year’s Day

All of these songs are very different from each other, but I love them all! Before the album was released I bet that I was going to fall in love with the song ‘Delicate’, and that it was going to be an worthy of a single, and boy was I right! It’s such a sweet song, and got a very calm beat, as well as being so catchy at the same time.

Another very calm song is ‘New Year’s Day’, which is the last song on the album, and it’s just her and a piano, and it’s one of the most beautiful and sweet songs she’s ever produced, really being the perfect ending to the album, and it’s seriously become one of my favourite Taylor Swift songs ever! It also sounds very much like old school Taylor … so quite clearly the old Taylor isn’t dead.

I understand when people are not entirely massive fans of this album, as it is really different from anything that Taylor’s done before, although there’s still a lot of the old Taylor in it, just she’s choosing to experiment with her music throughout it all. I’ve found it such an interesting album, and I’ve loved watching her ‘Making of a Song’ on YouTube, allowing us to see how these songs were built and produced. All of the songs are really catchy, but one thing that I can say is that it was definitely worth the wait!
