So, this is a follow on from last week, in which i’m going to share with you the incredible Meet a Tapir experience that I had for my birthday. I’m seriously obsessed with tapirs; I think that they are just the cutest and funniest animals […]
1. Do you have any pets? Yes, too many! I have 2 dogs, a parrot, fish (including some cute little puffer fish), and many chickens! 2. Name 3 things that are physically close to you. Pandora bracelet, water bottle, pillow. Completely all unrelated […]
This morning we had a very special member added. We keep a few chickens, currently seven, and last month we decided to let one of our chickens sit on some eggs. Currently she is sitting on three eggs. Yesterday we saw that one of the eggs had a little crack in it. I was really hoping that the chick would hatch during the night, so that I could see it immediately in the morning when I wake up. I was so excited!
Here is our chicken, Fancy Pants (don’t you just love the name), on top of her three eggs.
Anyway. This was the amazing surprise that we found whilst we were up the garden at about 8 o’clock this morning. At this point in time the chick must have only just hatched, due to it still being so weak so wet. My mum went to check on the egg at about 7 o’clock in the morning to find that it hadn’t hatched quite yet, so we were very lucky on finding it so soon after it hatching!
This is a couple of hours later, and you can just about see a little chick peeping out from underneath Fancy.
This is how the little baby chick looks now, all fluffy!! At this point the chick is already so much stronger and moving around just fine, chirping away loudly! For the time being all we can see of the chick’s appearance is that it is a fully black chick, just like the Silkie male (which it is mixed with), with no definite markings on it. It is such an adorable little baby chick, and I am so pleased with how well it is currently doing! So cute!!
